New Additions to Jeffsetter: Travel Photos and Pinterest

I spent much of the weekend building out a section of Jeffsetter that I think will become a great source of inspiration to readers over time. Basically, I have been “sitting” on thousands of fantastic travel photos that I have taken over the years and it’s time to give them a rightful home. Rather than sitting on my hard drive or on Facebook, I have started to make web pages dedicated to individual destinations and the photos taken at each place.

Unlike blog posts, trip reports and hotel reviews, these pages are much lighter when it comes to words, but very photo-forward. Each page has anywhere from 10 to 100+ photos with around 200 words describing my experience in the location. My plan is to have each page accessible on the site through an interactive/clickable world map on my travel page. I have identified a few map tools and hope to build this out in the next few weeks.

Here is a preview of some of the pages that I have added over the weekend:

Why these destinations? Part random, part places that I wanted to start sharing. I never blogged about my trip to Australia in 2011 or South America in 2010, so I wanted to make sure that those pages were created before my memories went away. The Germany posts were easy to write because it was so fresh in my mind. The Kunde Estate page was a particular fond point for me and my wife because we were married there in 2012.

The other reason for creating these pages? Because I am starting to work on developing a strategy for Pinterest in order to draw a wider audience to this blog. Pinterest is a very visual website, so I knew that my blog posts wouldn’t cut it when it comes to drawing interest. I needed to post photos to the site that users would find interesting, engaging and maybe even inspiring.

Since I have literally taken tens of thousands of photos on my journey, I figured that creating photo pages would be the perfect way to get my website more Pinterest friendly. If you are interested in checking out my progress so far, visit the Jeffsetter Pinterest page.

If you are reading this far, how about you help me understand you better. Do you use Pinterest? Are the boards that I have created so far interesting to you?
