Sunset over Asheville North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains [Photo of the Week]

Sunset over Asheville North Carolina

This week’s photo comes from my September 2013 trip to Asheville, North Carolina for a wedding. Asheville was such a great town that it prompted me to declare Who Needs Europe When You Have Asheville, North Carolina? after visiting.

While cataloging old photos, I came across some tremendous sunset photos from our last night in the city. That night we visited the Sky Bar for sunset cocktails, and timed things perfectly as we enjoyed our last taste of North Carolina. I will definitely be back in the future.

For those of you curious, here is how the photo looked when it came out of the camera:

Still quite beautiful, but not as intense as the colors that came out of the photo by darkening and bringing up the contrast levels. You can do a lot with both your camera and photo post processing to make a sunset pop, so perhaps that’s why I enjoy these photos so much.

It’s probably no secret by now that sunsets are among my favorite pictures to take. Maybe it’s because every sunset is different, maybe it’s because it allows us to see colors that rarely occur in nature, or maybe it’s because of the happy hour effect. No matter what the cause, you know where to find me as the sun goes down.
