Sand Sculptures in Vina Del Mar, Chile

When I visited Chile in 2010, I randomly ended up in a town called Viña Del Mar for a night. While I didn’t know much about the town, I knew that it was on the beach. I also know that when I visit a city that has a beach, I need to get to the water as quickly as possible.

By the time I made it down to the Pacific Ocean beaches, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The city of Viña Del Mar was nothing spectacular, so what would the beach be like?

The answer I didn’t expect to see? Riddled with American pop culture. As I approached the beach, my immediate attention was drawn to a sand sculpture of a drunken, passed out Homer Simpson. At first I thought that maybe I just imagined that the sculpture was Homer Simpson, but when he’s passed out on a keg of Duff beer? I am pretty sure that I wasn’t mistaken. That’s definitely Homer Simpson.

I guess even in developing nations we can’t avoid American pop culture.

This is one of the weirdest sand sculptures I’ve ever seen. What about you?
