Recently, Hawaiian Air announced it would be discontinuing its Beijing service. So, naturally, many began to wonder where they’d send their freed up jets. But, apparently, we didn’t have to wait too long for an answer. As it turns out, Hawaiian Airlines is flying to Boston beginning next year.
More specifically, Hawaiian’s new service to Boston will commence on April 4, 2019. Tickets are available beginning today, and if you book now through September 16, you could receive a special promotional rate of $617 roundtrip between Honolulu and Boston. This price is valid for dates of travel between April 4 and April 30, 2019, with blackout dates of April 14 and April 19 through 21.
Service Details
2019 coincidentally is Hawaiian Airlines’s 90th anniversary. So, in commemoration of their anniversary and their new Boston service, the outbound flight from Honolulu will be HA90. Flights from Honolulu will operate every Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, departing at 1:45 pm HST and arriving in Boston at 6:00 am ET the following day. The return flight will operate as HA89. Flights will depart Boston every Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Most of the flights will depart at 8:55 am ET, arriving in Honolulu at 2:35 pm HST the same day. However, Friday flights will depart at 8:00 am ET, arriving in Honolulu at 1:40 pm HST the same day.
Hawaiian’s Boston service will operate with one of their newly configured A330s featuring 18 lie-flat beds up front and 40 Extra Comfort seats offering 36 inches of pitch. I got to experience this new configuration all the way in the back of the aircraft this past May. And let me tell you, I don’t know if it was just me, but the seats seem harder than before. So spring for Extra Comfort or First if you can; your butt will thank you.
Award flights, by the way, will be 40,000 miles roundtrip for a Super Saver Economy ticket, or 60,000 at the Saver level. First Class will set you back 80,000 miles at the Saver level and 160,000 to 260,000 miles at the Flex level.
Hawaiian Airlines is Flying to Boston, Final Thoughts
Hawaiian’s new Boston route represents the Airline’s 76th non-stop domestic route and its second non-stop route to the East Coast. And in its press release, Hawaiian claims that New England is Hawaii’s largest domestic market not currently being served with a direct flight. On any given day, around 500 people travel between New England and Hawaii. So, if true, and if Hawaiian can convince these travelers to give them I try, I see no reason why this route shouldn’t be successful. Just, you know, try to snag an Extra Space or First Class seat. That’s a long flight to be stuck on a thin, hard seat.
