I have to admit when I saw this Virgin America flight safety video come through my email, Twitter and RSS feeds, my first reaction was “not another safety video!”
It’s not that I don’t enjoy airline safety videos with a humorous twist, I just figured that most of the innovation had already been done in this area.
When I finally clicked through to watch the Virgin America safety video on YouTube, I saw that it was 5 minutes long and figured I would maybe watch 30 seconds before I got bored of the video.
My eyes remained glued to the screen for a full 5 minutes. The impossible was achieved; Virgin America made the best airline safety video I have ever seen.
Not only is the video highly entertaining, it’s also the first time I have paid attention to a safety demonstration in years. I am actually surprised that I enjoyed the video as much as I did, because I don’t like shows like Glee that make a living out of this type of performance.
Other airlines should pay attention, the bar has been raised.
